New interface for home automation system

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to work on anything lately since I have been on vacation and busy at work, but I did have the opportunity this weekend to re-design my home automation system's Cisco IP Phone interface. Now that I have begun migrating to Linux I am able to use PHP, and the GD library is proving to be quite useful as I can now dynamically generate the display using the PNG graphic format.  Plus the Linux webserver is much more efficient, so I should not have the response time issues anymore!  Check out the new look:

Example of what NOT to do

Now that I have finished framing the wall in the main room, I have gone back to the smaller room that was already framed when we moved in.  I am now realizing that whoever put up the frame did NOT know what they were doing!

Basement Bar Design

I have come to a point where in order to continue I have to at least build the framework of the bar I plan to incorporate into the basement.  I also realized that I have not yet published the overall layout for the basement rec room, so check it out:

Basement Ceiling Drop

So the next thing I am looking for feedback on is the LVL beam in the center of the room, which I would like to drywall so that there is a clean transition into the back of the room where the ceiling will be lower.  I know that it has to be lower behind the beam just because of everything that is back there (ventilation, water pipes, etc).  I plan to have two levels of suspended ceiling to accomodate for this.  Check out these pictures to see what I am talking about (click to enlarge):

Blogging Update

Hey everyone, I decided to start working on my site again, and have made some improvements to my blog.  The biggest addition is the facebook integration, which allows all of my blog posts to be automatically posted to my wall in facebook.  I figured that the blog allows for larger more public posts, but that my facebook friends should still be able to read this stuff, so why not have it automatically post there too?  I still have yet to get the facebook login integration to work though, which when complete will allow facebook users to log into the site to post comments throug

Doorways in the Basement

I have completed the majority of the framing for the basement finishing project, but I have noticed something that may give me some problems.  When I built the walls for the area of the basement that has less ceiling clearance due to water and ventiliation, I planned on having the ceiling drop down to 6'6" - 6'8" or so.  I built the walls at 82" for this, and as such the rough opening for the doorways ended up being exactly 80".  Perfect, right?  Well, now I am wondering what will be done at the point where the ceiling meets the doorway:

Quick Update

Once again, a long time has passed with no blog entries from me. Not that anyone probably reads this, but just in case I thought I'd give everyone a quick update of what has been up since Christmas...
